Employee Assistance Programme

  • Employee Assistance Programme
MCL Medics is one of a small number of EAP providers delivering an EAPA-accredited Employee Assistance Programme alongside SEQOHS-certified occupational health. That integration means referral pathways between counselling, OH assessment, and management advice are direct, no information gaps between providers.
The MCL Medics EAP currently supports workforces across policing, local government, higher education, and the private sector.

An EAP is often misunderstood as just a counselling helpline. It’s not. Done properly, it’s a complete workforce management tool that catches problems before they become absences, and gives you the anonymised data to prove it.

Service at a glance:

  • Service: 24/7 confidential support for employees: mental health, legal, financial and crisis.
  • Accreditation: Fully EAPA accredited.
  • Outcomes: 32% improvement in return-to-work | 53% reduction in depression impact | 66% reduction in anxiety impact.
  • Benefit: Reduces absenteeism, improves workforce resilience and delivers measurable ROI.

EAP Provider Services

EAP Provider Services Proactive support for personal and professional challenges

Give employees direct access to confidential support whenever it is needed. Designed as a complete workforce package, this service combines clinical support with practical life management advice. Delivered by EAPA-accredited specialists, it operates 24/7, 365 days a year.

What’s included

  • Mental health support: Structured counselling for anxiety, depression, stress, bereavement, and relationship difficulties. All clinicians are BACP accredited, directly employed, and matched to presenting issues based on clinical expertise. Triage within two working days. Therapy starting within seven. Compare that with NHS waiting lists averaging six to eighteen weeks.
  • Legal information: Guidance on civil and family law matters that distract employees from their work, divorce, custody, housing disputes, neighbour conflicts, consumer rights, wills and probate. Delivered by qualified legal advisors. The service does not replace formal legal representation but gives employees the understanding they need to navigate the situation and make informed decisions.
  • Financial & debt management: Practical tools and advice for employees under financial pressure, including budgeting support, creditor negotiation guidance, benefits entitlement checks, and debt management strategies. Financial stress is one of the fastest-growing drivers of poor mental health and workplace absence. Addressing the practical problem often resolves the emotional one.
  • Managerial consultancy: A dedicated 24/7 support line for managers dealing with difficult conversations, team conflicts, return-to-work planning, and the clinical complexities of managing someone with a mental health condition. Your managers get real-time guidance from professionals who understand both the clinical reality and the employment law framework.
  • Crisis support: Immediate clinical response for workplace incidents, fatalities, serious injuries, security threats, sudden bereavements. Our incident response team deploys onsite anywhere in the UK or provides remote support within hours.
  • Trauma counselling: Specialist EMDR and trauma-focused CBT for employees affected by serious incidents. NICE-recommended protocols delivered by clinicians with specific trauma qualifications.

What sets our EAP apart

Most EAP providers sell you a helpline. We deliver an integrated clinical system. Our programme sits within the same governance framework as our SEQOHS-accredited Occupational Health services, which means the clinical pathway from EAP engagement to OH referral to workplace adjustment is joined up. No separate providers, no gaps, no repeated assessments.

When an employee calls with anxiety about a capability meeting, we do not just offer counselling in isolation. If the issue affects their fitness for work, we can escalate directly into an OH assessment. If a manager calls our advice line unsure how to handle a complex return, our clinicians already understand the case. That integration is not a marketing feature. It is a clinical one that produces better outcomes and fewer wasted appointments.

The standalone EAP model treats mental health as a separate silo from occupational health. Ours treats it as part of the same clinical picture. An employee’s anxiety does not stop being relevant when they attend an OH assessment. Their OH assessment does not stop being relevant when they’re receiving counselling. We manage both, under one governance framework, with clinical information flowing where it needs to.

Proven Outcomes

This is not abstract wellbeing. The data shows clear commercial impact across our client base:

improvement in return-to-work outcomes following EAP engagement. Employees who access our counselling service during a period of absence return to sustained attendance measurably faster than those who do not.
reduction in depression-related impact on work performance. Measured through validated clinical outcome tools administered before and after structured therapy.
reduction in anxiety-related impact on productivity. Again measured through validated instruments, not self-reported satisfaction surveys.

FAQs

An employer-funded service designed to improve workforce productivity by giving employees professional support for personal and work-related issues that could affect attendance or performance. It typically covers mental health counselling, legal advice, financial guidance, and crisis support.
Completely. Individual usage is never disclosed to the employer. You receive anonymised, aggregated utilisation data to identify trends across your workforce, but no individual employee is ever identified.
By resolving issues that cause distraction, presenteeism, and unplanned absence before they escalate. Prevention is significantly cheaper than cure. Our data shows a 32% improvement in return-to-work outcomes following programme engagement.
Because health issues do not sit in neat categories. A standalone helpline can provide counselling, but it cannot escalate directly to an occupational health assessment when someone’s condition affects their fitness for work. Our integrated model means the clinical pathway from wellbeing support to OH to workplace adjustment is managed under one governance framework.
Clinical triage happens within two working days. Structured therapy typically begins within seven days. That’s significantly faster than NHS provision.
Yes. You receive regular MI reports showing anonymised trends across your workforce: presenting issues, engagement rates, and outcome data. This intelligence helps you target your wider wellbeing strategy.

Our EAP is priced per employee per annum, scaled to your workforce size. The programme is competitively priced against standalone providers, with the added value of clinical integration with your occupational health provision, a feature that standalone helpline providers cannot match. Most clients find the programme pays for itself within the first quarter through reduced absence and faster return-to-work outcomes. We provide a tailored quote within 24 hours, with no obligation.
